The Man Behind “The Galileo Guy"

“I walked into a school recently wearing my Galileo costume, and a little girl stopped me in the hall. She said, ‘Excuse me, but can you tell me how you become an astronomer?’ So I said, ‘did you ever look up in the sky at the moon and the stars and wonder about them?’ And she said, ‘Yes!’, I responded, ‘Well, that’s how you become an astronomer-you just keep looking at the sky and asking questions.’”

A mathematics graduate of Loyola University Los Angeles, Paul Wicker is an amateur astronomer and a member of the Los Angeles Astronomical Society, Los Angeles Sidewalk Astronomers, The Planetary Society, and the Astronomical Society of the Pacific.

As The Galileo Guy, he has made presentations on astronomy to thousands of elementary and middle school students. Formerly a California credentialed secondary teacher, he is currently an active Disaster Services volunteer for the American Red Cross.
